UGC NET (National Eligibility Test)

The UGC NET is conducted in India to determine eligibility for Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in universities and colleges. It is administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC).

Eligibility Criteria

  • Master’s Degree with at least 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/OBC/PwD).
  • Final-year postgraduate students can apply.
  • JRF: Maximum 30 years (5-year relaxation for OBC-NCL, SC/ST, PwD, and women).
  • Assistant Professor: No age limit.
  • Ph.D. holders before 2009 are exempt from UGC NET for Assistant Professorship.

Selection Process

  1. Clear both Paper 1 and Paper 2.
  2. Top 6% of candidates qualify for Assistant Professorship.
  3. JRF candidates receive a fellowship (₹31,000 per month for 2 years, then ₹35,000 per month).
